Biography

Doreen graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1980, spent a wonderful 4 years in private practice, and then returned to OVC for further education (Internship, Residency and DVSc in Internal Medicine). She became a board certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in 1991. A career that followed included time in academia at both OVC (staff veterinarian) and the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan (Professor in Internal Medicine) and time in industry as director of the Scientific Communications/Clinical Trial Research for Medi-Cal Royal Canin Veterinary Diet in Canada). Doreen officially retired in July 2011 to allow her new career as a grandmother to flourish . She registered her own business, Doreen Houston Consulting in Sept, 2011 as her love of medicine required her to remain active in the field. Doreen is the author of multiple published papers, several book chapters and a textbook. She was the recipient of a number of academic teaching awards and was the proud recipient of the Ontario Veterinarian Medical Associations Outstanding Veterinarian of the Year award in 2011.
