Biography

Frederic Gaschen graduated from the University of Bern (Switzerland) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He is a specialist in small animal internal medicine and a Diplomate of both the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM and ECVIM-CA). After completing his postgraduate training North America, Frederic taught at his alma mater for 13 years. He then moved to Louisiana where he has been a professor of companion animal medicine at Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine since 2006. His main clinical interest and research focus are in canine and feline gastroenterology, particularly in clinically applicable methods to evaluate gastrointestinal motility and to improve it in sick animals, and in chronic enteropathies and the role of intestinal microbiota in health and disease. Frederic has held offices in various veterinary Associations and Colleges, and has been particularly active over the past decades in organizing congresses for the Swiss Small Animal Veterinary Association, ACVIM, ECVIM-CA, the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) and WSAVA.
